Sergio is a teacher at Sennett Middle School in the dual language immersion program, where he has the honor to teach the graduates of NMCS. He received his BS in Secondary Education, History, Spanish and Integrated Liberal Studies at UW-Madison. He is currently pursuing his Masters degree in Bilingual Education at Edgewood College. Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Sergio was raised in a bilingual household where he was taught to appreciate the melding of two diverse languages and cultures. Interested in bilingual education and the benefits it brings for both students and their surrounding communities, Sergio hopes to continue teaching the social, economic, and cultural importance of language learning in the classroom. In his spare time, Sergio enjoys reading about Mexican history, running, and rooting for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Sergio es un maestro en la escuela Sennett en el programa de inmersión dual español-inglés donde tiene el honor de enseñar los a graduados de NMCS. Él obtuvo su Licenciatura (BS) de la universidad de UW-Madison en Educación Secundaria, Historia, Español y Estudios Integrados Liberales. Actualmente está estudiando para recibir su Maestría en Educación Bilingüe del Colegio de Edgewood. Originario de Milwaukee, WI, Sergio fue criado en un hogar bilingüe, donde se le enseñó a apreciar la mezcla de dos idiomas y culturas diversas. Interesado en la educación bilingüe y los beneficios que aporta tanto para los estudiantes y sus comunidades alrededor, Sergio espera continuar con la enseñanza de la importancia social, económica y cultural del aprendizaje de idiomas en la clase. En su tiempo libre, Sergio disfruta leer sobre la historia de México, correr, y apoyar a los Brewers (Cerveceros) de Milwaukee.

Libbey Meister

Libbey Ortiz Meister is a Masters prepared Social Worker working in non profits and education for over 20 years, currently working as an instructional program manager at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. Libbey is the proud recipient of the Luan Gilbert Award for advocacy and the Backyard Hero Award from Community Shares of Wisconsin for work in the field of domestic violence. Married with three children, two currently enrolled in NMCS and one in Sennett DLI program, Libbey's passion for advocacy and social justice has grown to embrace dual language immersion education. Being a second generation immigrant whose family lost their native languages and married to an immigrant working to learn English, the work of NMI takes on special meaning. Prior to joing the BOD, volunteer work at NMCS included the Site Leadership Council, secondary school workgroup, new site committee and others.
Libbey Ortiz Meister es un Máster preparado trabajador Social sin fines de lucro y educación durante más de 20 años, actualmente trabaja como una administradora de programas educativos en la escuela de Medicina de la UW y la salud pública. Libbey es el orgulloso receptor del Premio Gilbert Luan para la promoción y el Premio de héroe de patio trasero de acciones comunitarias de Wisconsin para el trabajo en el campo de la violencia doméstica. Casado y con tres hijos, dos actualmente matriculados en NMCS y uno en el programa DLI Sennett, pasión de Libbey por defensa y justicia social ha crecido para abarcar la educación bilingüe de inmersión. Siendo una segunda generación de inmigrantes cuya familia perdió sus lenguas nativas y casada con un inmigrante trabajando para aprender a inglés, el trabajo de NMI adquiere un significado especial. Antes impartiendo la DBO, voluntaria trabajan en NMCS incluido el Consejo de liderazgo de sitio, grupo de trabajo de la escuela secundaria, Comité de sitio nuevo y otros.

Peter Joyce

Peter is the married father of two girls, in second and fifth grade at Nuestro Mundo. He is a founding member of Nuestro Mundo, Inc. He holds a Master’s Degree in Horticulture from the UW Madison. In his professional life, Peter served in the Peace Corps in Guatemala from 1981 — 1984. He started two potato biotech companies between 1988 and 2001 and owned a potato chip company in Kazakhstan from 1998-2001. He currently works as a consultant for US seed potato exports. Peter would like to see his children become fully bilingual. He himself started learning Spanish at age 22 and firmly believes that a strong foundation in acquiring other languages before the age of ten is an essential part of education. Peter believes that a dual immersion education benefits both Spanish and English dominant students with tangible skills.
Peter es un padre de familia, casado con dos hijas, una en segundo, y la otra en quinto grado en Nuestro Mundo. Es un miembro fundador de Nuestro Mundo, Inc. Tiene una Maestría en Horticultura de la UW-Madison. En su vida profesional, Peter sirvió en el Cuerpo de Paz en Guatemala de 1981-1984. Empezó dos empresas biotécnicos de papas entre 1988 y 2001 y fue dueño de una empresa de papas fritas en Kazajstán de 1998-2001. Hoy en dia trabaja como asesor para la exportación de semilla de papas de los EE.UU. A Peter le gustaría que sus hijas llegaran a ser completamente bilingues. Él mismo empezó a aprender el español a los 22 años y firmamente cree que es necesario construir fundaciones fuertes para adquirir otros lenguajes antes de diez años. Peter cree que una educación de inmersión dual es un beneficio tanto a la cultura inglés-dominante como a la español-dominante.

Ana began teaching at Nuestro Mundo when the school opened in 2004. She is currently a graduate student at UW Madison and teaches part time. She is involved with NMI because she believes that NMI is doing what is best for all children, especially Latino students. Ana believes that providing a dual language environment for kids is an excellent gift.
Ana empezó a enseñar en Nuestro Mundo cuando la escuela se abrió en el 2004. Actualmente es una estudiante graduada en la UW-Madison y enseña a tiempo parcial. Está involucrada en NMI porque cree que NMI está haciendo lo que es lo mejor para todos los niños, especialmente para los latinos. Ana cree que es un regalo excelente el proveerles un ambiente bilingüe a los niños.

Rigoberto Gallegos

Rigoberto Gallegos teaches 5th grade students at Nuestro Mundo Community School where he has been a teacher for the past five years. He has taught in California, Hiroshima (Japan), Michigan and Georgia. Originally from East Los Angeles, California, he studied anthropology and biology at Loma Linda University (Loma Linda, CA) and anthropology and education at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI). He is proud that his parents valued not only their heritage, but their language. And he’s glad other families and students have the same opportunity at Nuestro Mundo. He is a member of the Nuestro Mundo Leadership Team and the Madison Metropolitan School District’s Bilingual Leadership Team. He is also the staff’s Madison Teachers Inc. (MTI) union representative. In his spare time he likes to cook, read, look for great new books for his students and relax watching the Milwaukee Brewers, the Green Bay Packers and the Michigan Wolverines (GO BLUE!). He lives on the eastside of Madison with his partner, David, and their dog, Riley.
Rigoberto Gallegos enseña quinto grado en la escuela Nuestro Mundo, donde ha trabajado por los últimos cinco años. También trabajó como maestro en California, Hiroshima (Japón), Michigan y Georgia. Originalmente del este de Los Ángeles, estudió antropología y biología en la universidad de Loma Linda (Loma Linda, CA) y antropología y educación en la universidad de Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI). Se siente orgulloso que sus padres le ayudaron mantener su cultura y su idioma. Y ésta contento que sus estudiantes tienen la misma oportunidad con sus padres aquí en Madison. Rigoberto es miembro del grupo de liderazgo de Nuestro Mundo y del grupo de liderazgo del programa bilingüe del distrito escolar de Madison (MMSD). También es el representante de los maestros de Nuestro Mundo en la organización Madison Teachers Inc. (MTI), la unión de maestros. En su tiempo libre, le gusta cocinar, leer, buscar libros buenos para sus estudiantes, y descansar mirando los juegos de los Brewers, los Packers y los Wolverines de Michigan. Él vive con su compañero, David, y sus mascota Riley.

Sam Kellerman

Sam is a south side Madison native pursuing licensure as an architect. He returned to Madison after 9 years living away in both Minnesota and Colorado. Sam joined the NMI board to help provide a strong education alternative for students in the neighborhoods he grew up in. Extended travel in Mexico and living in Oaxaca City has shown Sam the opportunities a bilingual skill set can bring.
Sam es un nativo de lado sur de Madison y el estudio con licencia como arquitecto. Tras 9 años viven lejos en Minnesota y Colorado volvió a Madison. Sam se unió a la Junta de NMI para proporcionar una alternativa fuerte de educación para los estudiantes en los barrios en que creció. Viajes extendidos en México y vivir en la ciudad de Oaxaca ha demostrado a Sam puede traer el conjunto de habilidades de oportunidades un bilingüe.

Ananda Mirilli

Ananda is a native of Brazil and have worked in human resources and administration until 2006 when she went back to school to embrace her passion – social services and education.
Ananda is a graduate student at University of Wisconsin, Madison, department of Education Leadership and Policy Analysis. Her research focus is Latin@ access to college, and college preparatory initiatives. She has worked both in college and community setting, with middle and high school youth.
Ananda is a chair of the Higher Education and Post Secondary Committee for the Latino Education Council, a board member of UNIDOS Against Domestic Violence, chair of the Site Leadership at Nuestro Mundo Community School, chair of the Latino Academy Steering Committee and Program Coordinator at the YWCA Madison Racial & Restorative Justice Program.
Ananda is an active parent of a nine-year old third-grader at NMCS. She enjoys attending community events with her daughter, dance and sunshine.
Ananda es un nativa de Brasil y ha trabajado en recursos humanos y administración hasta el 2006 cuando ella regresó a la escuela para seguir su pasión: los servicios sociales y la educación. Ananda es una estudiante graduada en la Universidad de Wisconsin, Madison, en el departamento de educación de liderazgo y análisis de políticas. El enfoque de su investigación es acceso de Latinos en la educación superior. Ha trabajado tanto en la Universidad como la comunidad, con jóvenes de secundaria y preparatoria. Ananda es una coordinadora del Comité para el Consejo Latino de Educación, miembro de UNIDOS contra la violencia doméstica, cordenadora del Consejo de Liderazgo Escolar (SLC), Presidente del Comité de Academia Latino y coordinadora de justicia racial y restaurativa del YWCA, Madison. Ananda es un madre activa y tiene una hijaen el tercer grado en NMCS. Le gusta asistir a eventos de la comunidad con su hija, le gusta el baile y el verano.

Angelita Renteria

Angelita Renteria is a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School. Originally from Milwaukee, WI she first moved to Madison in 1997 and attended LaFollette and Malcolm Shabazz City High Schools in Madison. Her experiences at both schools made her committed to service, education, and the promotion of Madison's Latino population. Professionally, she received her B.A. in International Relations from the George Washington University in Washington, DC, and has worked for various law firms and non-profit organizations.
Angelita Renteria es es un graduado reciente de la UW-Madison en la escuela de estudios legales. Originalmente de Milwaukee, Wisconsin, se mudo a Madison en 1997 y atendió las secundarias LaFollette y Shabazz. Su experiencia en las dos escuelas le ha ayudado a estar dedicada al servicio público, educación y a promover la populación Latina en Madison.
Profesionalmente ha recibido un bachillerato en Relaciones Internacionales en la Universidad de George Washington en Washington D.C. y ha trabajado para varias empresas legales y organizaciones sin fines de lucro.
