Nina Nelsestuen is a tribal citizen of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin.  While earning her Bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders from UW-Madison and then Master’s degree in Communicative Sciences Disorders from UW-Milwaukee, Nina worked for United Migrant Opportunity Services’s Head Start and Early Head Start program over the summers in Oshkosh Wisconsin.  It was there that she not only got her first experience working in Early Childhood Education but also working with the Migrant Latino Population that makes Wisconsin their home every growing season.  Nina has worked for the Madison Metropolitan School District since the fall of 2007, spending a majority of her career working in Early childhood education.  She experienced a few years providing speech and language services to Spanish speaking children, and their families, joined by an interpreter.  She knew the children were benefiting from the use of the interpreter but they would be better served if they received their services from a Spanish speaker or bilingual speech and language clinician, gaining an interest in how the public schools can better serve Spanish speaking children so that they can join the educational workforce with a passion for language learning and enrichment.

Nina’s two children attend NMCS.  Nina joined the NMI board in 2023.  She believes in the mission of the board and hopes to support NMCS, its teaching, and learning efforts of all its scholars.
