We are a working board. NMI has just one paid staff member, which effectively means that our board members cover, manage, conduct and complete all the necessary work of the organization. On our board, a willingness to learn and to take on leadership roles are key.

Because we are a working board, each member does not only the general work of a board member, but also typically serves in one (or more) leadership roles, each of which involves a specific set of tasks.

On average, our board members spend between 5-10 hours each month on board work, including a monthly 1.5-hour board meeting. Board meetings are held alternately in Spanish and English, and translation is available. Board members serve a three-year term.
